My Mac won’t let me see graphics/photos on Safari and Firefox. Anyone Why or What I should do?

My computer suddenly stopped showing graphics, so i go on google and look up things for pictures and it just shows white boxes and you can’t see the google graphic. If anyone knows what i should do then please tell me?
This is the only thing I can think of that might be causing the problem:
Pull the Safari menu down to Preferences.
Click the "Appearance" tab.
See if the "Display images when the page opens" checkbox is checked.
If not, checkmark it.
I don’t know if Firefox has a similar setting, but, likely so. It may be unchecked, as well …
