African Hunting Safaris Advice?
Feb 26th, 2010 by admin
I’m starting to plan a hunting trip with a buddy of mine for Jan/Feb ‘10. So far all of the companies that I have come across seem very nice and offer luxury accomadations. We’re wondering though if anybody knows of any "camping safaris". You know, sleeping in tents in the wild instead of going back to the luxury hotel with maids and chefs. We thought it might save us a buck or two and provide a more "organic experience". Also, if anybody out there has any reccomendations about companies they hunted with (luxury or otherwise) and the game you hunted I’d appreciate it. Thanks yall.
First of all…Nobody goes to Africa to hunt in Jan/Feb…it is mid summer down there and the height of the rainy season besides being HOT…..you cannot get around due to washed out roads and mud. Next, where do you plan to hunt? S.A., Namibia, Botswana? It matters. Also, what do you plan to hunt? There are some outfitters that maintain tented camps. Check out the ads in Safari Club International’s magazine.
I really don’t think you will save much money overall, but its your hunt, – Good Luck
Check out TAR Sporting. One of the owners posted pictures of a recent hunt on http://www.Leverguns.com and it looks like what you are looking for. Look for postings by 86er about African Safaris.

I suspect that your idea of a "camping safari" would not turn out quite like you anticipate. Quality safari outfitters provide a lot of physical support as part of their services. Essential considerations such as top quality guides, trackers, etc. may not be readily available at a tent site. And what about trophy care and preparation? I think you’d be giving up a lot more that you’ll bargain for with this idea.
