would like to welcome you to
the biggest festival on the African Continent

The PAN AFRICAN  HISTORICAL THEATRE FESTIVAL happens every two years in Ghana and is a unique experience every time. We have put together PANAFEST in Pictures for you reminding you of the past PANAFEST and wetting your appetite for the next one.

" In ever lasting memory of the anguish of our ancestors. May those who died rest in peace. May those who return find their roots. May humanity never perpetrate such injustice against humanity. We the living vow to uphold this "
(words taken from a plaque in front of the male dungeon in the Cape Coast Castle )

The Slave Trade forcibly took away millions of children of Africa hundreds of years ago. PANAFEST is among other things targeted towards the descendants of these unfortunate people living today in the Diaspora. PANAFEST is meant to provide a platform to forge a sense of unity and identity and the need to re-discover their roots.

The quest for African Identity is always spiritually relevant as a weapon for the emancipation and development of the African Continent by all of African descent. PANAFEST gives the unique opportunity for cultural linkages which will ensure a continuing kinship with all children of Africa.

PANAFEST  is always held in Cape Coast, Elmina, Assin Manso and Accra

Cape Coast used to be the Capital of the Gold Coast (now renamed Ghana) and lies within 5 minutes drive from Elmina (Edina) home of the famous Elmina Castle and site of the first European setting foot on African Soil. The Cape Coast Castle was originally built to serve as lodge but gradually became the largest Slave Trading Fort next to Elmina. Cape Coast is 144 km from Accra, the capital of Ghana.

PANAFEST is the largest festival on the African Continent but is is not meant for Africans only. It is a chance for everybody the world over to come and experience Africa. Besides visiting the historic Slave Trading sites of Cape Coast and Elmina, attending the wonderful theater performances and cultural displays, you could hike through the Kakum National Park, take a trip to Kumasi-the Ashanti Capital or enjoy a Sunday trip on the Volta Lake just to mention a few of Ghana's attractions.
