we are already going to the toronto zoo because even though i live in buffalo i won’t give that crappy zoo a penny. i heard the animals look sad and lazy laying around and its $30 which is a decent amount of money for my boyfriend and i. is it worth it?
If you don’t want to travel as far as Toronto to the Zoo, albeit it is worth it, or African Lion Safari, also worth it, why don’t you try Safari Niagara. Here’s a link.
If both of you are able-bodied and will enjoy walking in the heat, you’ll probably get more out of spending more time at the Toronto Zoo (formerly Metropolitan Toronto Zoo). Toronto Zoo is a large public facility run by a non-profit board, with significant efforts in conservation and science, the third largest zoo in the world. It has recently come under some criticism because of elephant deaths.
The African Lion Safari is a private enterprise run for profit. In the past it was fairly small and somewhat cheesy. I found it very disturbing and disrespectful to see other visitors break the rules and open their car windows to feed monkeys. In more recent years they have apparently had successful captive breeding programs, and also have expanded to include a part that you can walk through.

It is best to go when it is not extremely hot. On really hot days the animals are mostly in the shade and difficult to see. I have been there at least 10 times and IIve always enjoyed it.They have tons of animals and the monkeys climbing on your car is the best part. If you stick around until the later part of the afternoon they have the elephant swim which is pretty cool. They parade the elephants down one of the roadways , single file holding each others tails and they head for one of the ponds for a swim.
